One of my favourite mediums is Chalk pastel which I often use for portraits. Some of these were done for fun and others were for commission. I love expression on faces and finding a technique that suits the image. Some of these are more naturalistic but others, I deliberately opt for a cross hatch or block colour application of the chalk. I prefer getting a photo of my subjects when
they are not aware it is being taken - some have found this
annoying at times (!) however it often makes for a really
natural expression which, while not always flattering, often
seems to capture the spirit of the sitter more.
